Dan Sloughter of Furman University intends this to be an introductory course but students may find a rudimentary knowledge of calculus may better prepare them for the pace of the course. The book is based on the hyperreal number system. The standard prerequisites of basic algebra and trigonometry apply. The author suggests the material is presented at a pace intended for students who already possess some knowledge of calculus.

Sloughter has taught at Furman since 1986 and previously taught students at Stnata Clara University, Boston College and Dartmouth College.
